By the banana trees

This is the front side of a page inspired by Shimelles 'sketch of the week' post here. In the video she showed how to use a transparency in a way which i have never tried before. To make it work, you need to make another layout directly onto the reverse of the page, so see my next blog entry for that!

In her post Shimelle writes ' if you do have a transparency kicking around that needs to be put to use, consider this your challenge!' and i remembered this grey doily patterned sheet i have had for a while wondering how to use. I thought it would be perfect for this challenge!

Transparencies are something i shy away from as i can never think how to use them, and how to adhere them securely (which reminds me....Shimelle said that she needed to stick the whole transparency sheet between the cardstock to give stability even though she admits it is somewhat wasteful....well as this is my only transparency, i just couldnt bring myself to do this. So i cut off 4 inches, and just used a piece 8 inches tall....i used a piece of spare 12x12 just to line it all up when adhering it all together....it means i have just 2 inches sandwiched between the card....but it seems stable enough to me....and now i have a stripe left over for another LO.....am i making an sense?) 

Another things that Shimelles layout inspired me to try was making the distressed tickets. Although Shimelle made her coloured repeating border thing in a totally different way (stamping), the overall feel reminded me about the Tim Holtz embossing folder i have had for a while. This is how i imagined using it on a layout (i used coredinations cardstock in 3 different matching colours....distressed it by rubbing it with sandpaper....embossing it with the folder....and then rubbing grey ink lightly over the raised parts.

Other supplies that i used were various Echo Park 'Take Note' papers, american crafts flair button, tim holtz ticket and journalling ticket, various washi tapes and an alphabet by sassafrass and another by american crafts.
